This course aims to describe the key aspects of population genetics and genome-wide association studies (GWAS); participants will be able to perform analyses in their own research. The course will cover both theoretical and practical issues of genetic epidemiology via association analysis, illustrating particular concepts with examples from recent studies in Type 2 Diabetes, sickle cell disease and Malaria.
Advanced Workshop on Research Methods for African Scientists

The goal of this workshop is to train African scientists and project coordinators on establishing large population-based cohorts. Workshop instruction will focus on study design, understanding ethical and cultural issues in genomic studies, participant enrollment, definition of phenotype, collection and processing, storage and tracking of biological specimens.
