Lara Bethke is a Science Portfolio Advisor at the Wellcome Trust, where she develops, implements, and manages strategic funding activities in the scientific areas of infectious diseases and global health. \u00a0In addition to her scientific portfolio she oversees several large international projects including the Wellcome Trust overseas programmes in Thailand and Vietnam, the Southeast Asia Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Network, and the H3 Africa initiative. \u00a0Prior to her time at the Wellcome Trust she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Cancer Research, where she led the molecular genetics arm of an international consortium of brain cancer epidemiologists. \u00a0She completed her PhD research on malaria genetics at Harvard University. \u00a0Prior to her doctoral studies she worked in international development and lived and worked in Ecuador, Colombia, Russia, and Ukraine, including two years as a US Peace Corps volunteer in the Russian Far East.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n
