Dr. Nyangahu completed his PhD in Clinical Laboratory Science at the University of Cape Town, where he investigated how the maternal gut microbiota during pregnancy and lactation shapes offspring immunity. He subsequently completed postdoctoral training at Seattle Children’s Research Institute, studying how early-life gut microbiota influences BCG vaccine response in infants who are exposed to HIV but uninfected (iHEU). He joined the faculty at Rutgers in September 2024, where his lab studies how early-life gut microbiome influences immunity, growth and neurodevelopment in iHEU.
