Dimpho Ralefala
IFGeneRA H3Africa ELSI Collaborative Centre at the University of Cape Town
Dimpho Ralefala is a PhD fellow specialising in Bioethics under the Individual Findings in Genetics Research in Africa (IFGeneRA) H3Africa ELSI Collaborative Centre at the University of Cape Town. She holds a Master of Social Science degree in Health Research Ethics from the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education with a specialisation in Geography, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science both from the University of Botswana. She has participated in several bioethics training initiatives including the year-long Fogarty African Bioethics Training Programme at Johns Hopkins University, USA and has completed a UNESCO Ethics Teacher Training Course. She has 10 years’ experience of working in research ethics administration at the University of Botswana. In 2017, she received an award in Professional Excellence in Research Management from the South African Department of Science and Technology in partnership with the Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association.
Her research interests are on ethical, legal and social issues in genomic research and biobanks, informed consent, children research as well as operations of institutional review boards.
