Dr. Jeff Struewing

Program Director at Genotype-Tissue Expression Project (GTEx) Division of Genomic Medicine


 

Dr Struewing is a Program Director in the Division of Extramural Research at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Struewing joined the NIH in 1991, following three years as a U.S. Navy Medical Officer in San Diego. His interdisciplinary studies have focused on inherited factors in cancer, particularly breast and ovarian cancer, first in the Genetic Epidemiology Branch and then in the Laboratory of Population Genetics at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), where he received tenure in 2001.

In 2007, Dr. Struewing joined the Office of Population Genomics at NHGRI and moved to the Division of Extramural Research in 2009, where he serves as a Program Director. He is the Program Coordinator for the Genotype-Tissue Expression Project of the NIH Common Fund.

Dr. Struewing received his M.D. in 1985 from Indiana University School of Medicine and his M.S. in Preventive Medicine in 1988 from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency. He is Board Certified in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine.
