Funding
H3Africa has been funded for a period of 10 years (2011-2021) at a current commitment of ~$180M. This money has been awarded to African Institutions from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Wellcome Trust, and the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) through its funding platform, Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa (AESA). Awards were made to support biomedical research projects and collaborative centers, biorepositories, a pan-African informatics network, bioinformatics training programs, ethical legal and social implications research projects and collaborative centers, and a coordinating center (see “projects”). While there are no longer open funding opportunities for H3Africa, each of these funding agencies is committed to supporting high-impact research in Africa.
